Prehistory

Although the Archdiocese of Canada is not a parish in itself, the structure of the archdiocese unites all the parishes and institutions under the omophor of the ruling bishop of Canada.

Historical comments may be found here.

From the founding of the diocese in 1916, the diocesan office has been situated in various places. It was at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, from 1916 until 1936. It was at Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral in Montréal, Québec, from 1945 until 1952. It was at Christ the Saviour Cathedral in Toronto, Ontario, from 1952 until 1959. It was at Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral in Montréal, Québec, from 1960 until 1987. It was at Johnstown, Ontario, from 1988 until 2012. In 2012, the office was moved into Ottawa, Ontario, at 33, LeBreton Street North, adjacent to the Annunciation Cathedral.

In 2014, the office was moved to Rawdon, Québec.

Establishment of the Office of the Archdiocese of Canada at Rawdon, 2014

In 2014, when Bishop Irénée (Rochon) was elected by the Holy Synod of Bishops of The Orthodox Church in America to be Bishop of Ottawa and Canada, the office was moved to Rawdon, so as to be near his permanent and long-term residence.

For this purpose, a house was purchased by the archdiocese. This house is not far from the Russian Orthodox Cemetery of Saint Seraphim, the Saint Seraphim Orthodox Church, and the Saint Seraphim Skete.

Situated in a location of easy access in Rawdon, the site proved to be convenient in many ways.
