This book, written by the now Archbishop Lazar (Puhalo), is very much the fruit of his years of missionary service in the State of Alaska, USA as deacon and priest, and his activity within the Orthodox Christian Church in Alaska. He loved to serve the indigenous peoples there, and he greatly appreciated the practical and spiritual history of the Orthodox Church in Alaska.

It is providential that he undertook to make a record (primarily photographic) of as many as possible of the 200 Orthodox Christian temples that had been constructed during the many decades of the missionary activities of the Church of Russia. Much of what he produced is not easily available to average people, except in some archival records.
