==Formation of the community, 1910==

[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ardill,_Saskatchewan Ardill], [https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/timeline/saskatchewan Saskatchewan], [https://www.britannica.com/place/Canada Canada], was a small village located about 62 km (39 mi) slightly southwest of [https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/moose-jaw Moose Jaw], Saskatchewan, and about 125 km (77 mi) southwest of [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regina,_Saskatchewan Regina], Saskatchewan. It was situated a short distance south of [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Wives_Lake Old Wives Lake], and near [https://travelingluck.com//North+America/Canada/Saskatchewan/_5957756_Frederick+Lake.html Frederick Lake].

At the beginning of the 20th century, this region, which had previously been settled by immigrants from [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Europe Western Europe], received an influx of settlers from what is now [https://www.britannica.com/place/Poland Poland] and [https://www.britannica.com/place/Ukraine Ukraine] (at that time, parts of the [https://www.britannica.com/place/Russian-Empire Russian Empire] and the [https://www.britannica.com/summary/Austria-Hungary Austro-Hungarian Empire]). This settlement was large in number around 1910.

==Construction of the Temple, 1912==

In about 1912, a Temple was erected at Ardill by the settlers in the village and on the nearby farms. It was a very simple structure, but it served its purpose. This parish community’s dedication is not now known, but it was served by clergy of the [https://orthodoxcanada.ca/A_Chronological_History_of_the_Archdiocese_of_Canada,_Part_1 Canadian deanery] of the “[http://orthodoxcanada.ca/The_%E2%80%9CRussian_Mission%E2%80%9D_in_North_America Russian Orthodox Mission]” of [https://www.britannica.com/place/North-America North America], the Diocese of [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_City New York] and the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aleutian_Islands Aleutians] of the [https://orthodoxwiki.org/Church_of_Russia Church of Russia].

The Temple was situated at land description site SW 21-11-28-W2nd, in the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rural_Municipality_of_Lake_Johnston_No._102 Rural Municipality of Lake Johnson].

It was built along the north-south road. The structure was finished with cedar shingles on both the walls and roof. A [http://ablamb.ca/producer_mgmt/Setting-It-Up-Sheep-Infrastructure/7-Fencing/7-2-Page-Wire-Fencing-Plan.pdf page wire] fence surrounded the churchyard.

There are no available records at this time, but it is known that a wedding took place there as late as 1931.

==Depopulation and closure==

As with many other communities, when [https://www.dal.ca/news/2012/06/26/the-population-problem--how-rural-decline-is-reshaping-north-ame.html rural depopulation] began to occur during and after the 1930s, this community shrank until by the 1990s its population fell to 0.

It is likely that this parish community was closed by 1940.

The Temple was later dismantled, and the lumber was used to build a farm building that was itself destroyed later. Sometime ago, a few church items had been found in a storage area of a private home.

The only image of the Temple is a drawing made by the recollection of a former parishioner.

This community was part of the "[https://orthodoxcanada.ca/The_%E2%80%9CRussian_Mission%E2%80%9D_in_North_America Russian Mission]", which then became the [http://orthodoxcanada.ca/The_%E2%80%9CRussian_Mission%E2%80%9D_in_North_America#Diocese_of_the_Aleutian_Islands_and_North_America,_1900 Archdiocese of North America and the Aleutians], and then later the "[https://orthodoxwiki.org/Orthodox_Church_in_America Russian Orthodox Greek Catholic Church in North America]".

Within this Church, the parish was also part of the [https://orthodoxcanada.ca/A_Chronological_History_of_the_Archdiocese_of_Canada,_Part_1 Diocese of Canada] (following its formation in 1916).

The first bishop under which this parish lived was [[Metropolitan Platon (Rozhdestvensky) |Archbishop Platon (Rozhdestvensky)]]. [[Archbishop Alexander (Nemolovsky) |Bishop Alexander (Nemolovsky)]] was the next bishop, in 1914. These and other bishops were responsible for providing priestly pastoral service for the parishioners of Ardill.
