'''Montréal, Québec : Église orthodoxe grecque Sainte-Marina, Saint-Hubert, 1974'''

==Prehistory of the region==

The municipality of [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint-Hubert,_Quebec Saint-Hubert], [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longueuil Longueuil], [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montreal Montréal], [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebec Québec], [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada Canada] is within the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mont%C3%A9r%C3%A9gie Montérégie] region of southwest Québec.

As is frequently the case in Québec, the name of is derived from the name of the main church associated with the settlement itself. In this case, it is [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hubert_of_Li%C3%A8ge Saint Hubert of Liège] (+727). ([https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Li%C3%A8ge Liège] is now part of the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belgium Kingdom of Belgium].)

For Québec, [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint-Hubert,_Quebec Saint-Hubert] is a relatively recent settlement, which became a parish only in 1860. Its growth was largely related to the growth of the City of Montréal over the years. This growth was slow, largely because of the distance across the Saint Lawrence River ; and Saint-Hubert did not become a city until 1958.

It had been a separate city prior to 1 January, 2002, when it and several other neighbouring [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Shore_(Montreal) south-shore] municipalities were merged into [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longueuil Longueuil] (at the same time as another, similar merger).

==Prehistory of the parish==

The prehistory of Saint Marina Greek Orthodox Church is parish is found in the history of the [https://orthodoxcanada.ca/Montréal_QC_Evangelismos-Annunciation_Greek_Orthodox_Church_1909-1931,_1975 Evangelismos], and [https://orthodoxcanada.ca/Montréal_QC_†Holy_Trinity_Greek_Orthodox_Church_1925-1986 Holy Trinity] parishes of Montréal, Québec, Canada, as well as the other parishes that developed in the various parts of [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Montreal Greater Montréal].

All this development eventually included the beginning of the development of a Greek Orthodox parish and community in Saint-Hubert. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_language Greek-speakers] had begun to settle in the south-shore settlements, as well as in the parts of Greater Montréal to the north.

The establishment of the parishes and communities on the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Shore_(Montreal) South Shore] part of Greater Montréal was associated with the establishment of the Greek Schools, [https://hcgm.org/platon-omeros/ Omeros], and [https://www.socdem.org/ Socrates-Démosthène].

==Establishment of the parish, and the school==

The parish and community of the Greek Orthodox Church of [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_the_Virgin Saint Marina of Antioch] was established in Saint Hubert, Québec, in the South-Shore region of Greater Montréal. It was the first of the parishes to be established in [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longueuil Longueuil].

The name of the community itself was “[https://www.katalogos.ca/item/hellenic-orthodox-community-of-south-shore/ Communauté hellénique de la Rive-Sud de Montréal]” (Hellenic Community of the South Shore of Montréal), and its address was 5220 Grande Allée, Saint-Hubert.
