Eastern Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada (UOCC)

Definition

The Ukrainian Orthodox Eparchy of Eastern Canada is an eparchy (diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada (UOCC) under the Church of Constantinople. The eparchy (diocese) was established in 1951.

Components

The Eastern Eparchy consists of the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec. It has about 27 parishes, with 2 cathedral churches :

Saint Volodymyr in Toronto, and Saint Sophie in Montreal.

The ruling bishop of the eparchy has been styled either as “Bishop of Saskatoon, and the Eastern Eparchy”, or “Bishop of Toronto, and the Eastern Eparchy”. The former title was related to certain tensions regarding who had the right amongst Orthodox bishops to use the title “Toronto”.
